How to use the GST / VAT Calculator

  1. Pick Add GST (exclusive amount) or Remove GST (inclusive amount).
  2. Enter the amount and the GST/VAT rate percentage.
  3. Click Calculate to see the tax amount and total.
  4. Use the Copy or Share buttons to save or send your result.

Tip: Use "Remove GST" when your amount already includes tax and you need to find the original pre-tax price.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using "Add GST" on an amount that already includes tax.
  • Entering the wrong GST/VAT rate for your region.
  • Forgetting rates can differ by product/service category.

Add vs. Remove GST

Two different calculations

Add GST: Tax = (Amount × Rate) ÷ 100, Total = Amount + Tax — use this when your amount excludes tax. Remove GST: Net = Amount ÷ (1 + Rate/100), Tax = Amount − Net — use this when your amount already includes tax.

When to use this tool

Useful for invoicing, price comparisons, and checking whether a quoted price includes tax.

Accuracy & limitations

This calculator is built for speed and accuracy, but it's worth understanding what it does and doesn't account for:

  • Single flat rate. This tool applies one rate at a time and doesn’t split mixed-rate invoices.
  • No regional exemptions. Some goods/services are exempt or zero-rated in certain regions — this tool doesn’t know your local exemption rules.
  • Not official tax software. For filing purposes, always double-check with official government tax tools or an accountant.
