How to use the EMI / Loan Calculator

  1. Type in the total loan amount you plan to borrow.
  2. Type in the annual interest rate offered by your lender.
  3. Type in the loan tenure in months, then click Calculate EMI.
  4. Use the Copy or Share buttons to save or send your result.

Tip: A longer tenure lowers your monthly EMI but increases the total interest paid over the life of the loan.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Entering tenure in years instead of months.
  • Using a monthly rate instead of the annual rate.
  • Forgetting processing fees, which this calculator doesn’t include.

The EMI formula

How monthly EMI is calculated

EMI = [P × r × (1+r)^n] ÷ [(1+r)^n − 1], where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the number of monthly installments.

When to use this tool

Useful for planning car loans, personal loans, and comparing offers from different lenders before committing.

Accuracy & limitations

This calculator is built for speed and accuracy, but it's worth understanding what it does and doesn't account for:

  • Fixed rate assumption. This calculator assumes the interest rate stays constant for the entire loan tenure.
  • No fees included. Processing fees, insurance, and other lender charges are not included in this estimate.
  • No prepayment modeling. This shows the standard EMI schedule and doesn’t model the effect of prepayments or part-payments.
