How to use the Calorie Calculator

  1. Select gender and enter age, height, and weight.
  2. Pick the option that best matches your typical weekly activity.
  3. Click Calculate Calories to see your BMR and daily maintenance calories.
  4. Use the Copy or Share buttons to save or send your result.

Tip: To lose weight, eat below your maintenance calories; to gain weight, eat above it — a deficit or surplus of 500 cal/day roughly equals 0.5kg per week.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Overestimating activity level, which inflates the calorie estimate.
  • Entering height in feet/inches instead of centimeters.
  • Confusing BMR (resting calories) with maintenance calories (BMR × activity).

How calories are calculated

The Mifflin-St Jeor formula

BMR (men) = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age + 5. BMR (women) = 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age − 161. Maintenance Calories (TDEE) = BMR × Activity Multiplier.

When to use this tool

Useful for setting weight loss, maintenance, or muscle-gain calorie targets as a starting point for nutrition planning.

✓ Pros

  • Works instantly, right in your browser

Accuracy & limitations

This calculator is built for speed and accuracy, but it's worth understanding what it does and doesn't account for:

  • An estimate only. This uses a well-established formula, but actual metabolic rate can only be precisely measured in a lab.
  • Subjective activity level. Choosing the right activity multiplier requires honest self-assessment of your typical week.
  • Doesn’t account for individual factors. Muscle mass, medical conditions, and medications can all affect actual calorie needs beyond this estimate.

BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to maintain basic functions.

Eat fewer calories than your maintenance number — a deficit of about 500 calories/day typically results in roughly 0.5kg of weight loss per week.

Pick the option that best matches your typical week, not your best or worst week of exercise.
